It’s the Food!

It’s the Food!

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”  ~Hippocrates

There are so many people who are confused about their current state of health. When I was listening to mainstream media, which was telling me I could eat a little of everything in moderation, I was confused, too. I was, also, 40 lbs heavier than I am now. Not only that, I was pre-diabetic, and I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without losing my breath.

Common wisdom would tell me that I am just getting older, and these are just the side effects of the inevitable. However, the myth that we have to grow old and fall apart is based on a belief system, not reality.

The problem is that so many people believe the “get older and fall apart” myth that it is hard to help them see that their health is something they can change beginning with three meals a day.

That is right. Without joining a gym, or suiting up to run a marathon, or even walking, our birthright to health is under our direct control. The major cause of death in the U.S. is heart disease, followed closely by cancer. Heart disease is a food-borne illness in almost all cases. Links to our diets and cancer are becoming more clear every single day.

The reason we begin to believe that getting older is the reason we can’t lose weight and why we are starting to suffer from chronic disease is the rationalization that we aren’t doing anything different than we used to, not eating any different, and we were fine then, but now we are not.

This actually proves my point. When our bodies are younger, they can sustain more abuse. We get by with eating the wrong foods, and our bodies bounce back a lot faster when we decide to lose weight.

However, as times goes on, our bad habits build up inside our bodies, even if on the outside we look thin, as is the case sometimes, and what we’ve been doing catches up with us. Add to this the incredible amount of additives and chemicals that are now in our diets, which our bodies don’t recognize, and we have a cocktail for obesity and ill-health.

If you are tired of diets and failed exercise regimens, just do one thing: take a look at your food.

Find out what you are eating. Educate yourself. Find doctors who are writing books about healthy eating who are actually healthy themselves. My diet is completely a Whole Foods Plant-Based lifestyle that does not include any animal products or oils. I feel great, and I am not depriving myself of delicious food or having to control my portions.

If you cannot imagine giving up meat, take a look at the Blue Zones Solution or read Dr. Joel Furhman’s books. Both of these will help you see that food actually is the problem and the solution.

I have videos on my YouTube page you can watch, and I have a resource page for the WFPB Lifestyle.

Whatever you do, don’t throw your hands up and give up. You have the power to get your  life back. It starts with your next meal.

Peace and Joy,
